My Lovely Macynn came out of my room crying this morning. When I asked what the matter was she sobbed, "The president was on TV(she caught a re-run of the address), and we have to go help the animals on the Gulf Coast.” She ran to her room and pulled out this GIANT map to show me EXACTLY where we had to go.

Knowing that we couldn't up and drive across the state today I got online to see what we could do from home.

The first bullet to appease my little love and her immediate desire to ACT was DONATE HAIR. She got hers cut last week and so we called the salon and they DID in fact DONATE Mace's hair to Matter of Trust. Thank goodness, she’d be asking to cut it again if not!

We have decided to volunteer at a local turtle rescue center, which is short handed because the scientists and students HAVE gone to the gulf to assist.

I kept reading and found this, parts of which really resonate with me and so I'd like to share(mind the soap box for a minute or two);

”Consume less petroleum

I personally will begin my reduced petroleum consumption by avoiding BP and all its subsidiary brands, including Castrol, Arco, Aral, am/pm, Amoco, Wild Bean Cafe, and Safeway gas. I recognize that there's a lot of kickback against a boycott, saying it won't do any good; but if you want to chastise me over what I fully confess is largely a matter of principle, then I would like to draw your attention to a moving blob the size of Ireland, and made of poison.

I'm not saying this is rational, and let me be the first to admit that I'm flailing, here (trying to teach my children something from this mess). After all, do you think I have warmer feelings for Exxon Mobil - undoubtedly one of the world's great polluters? For Chevron - perpetrators of the Amazon Chernobyl? No. But this isn't their mess (this time), and they aren't the ones gloriously screwing up (right now).

There's no winning this one. All you can really do is make a commitment to use as little of their product as possible.

However, I have lived outside of the city for much of my life, and I understand that not everyone can just quit driving and take up public transportation -- or even necessarily choose which gas station to buy from when there's only one or two in town. Obviously the ideal here is to look into other technologies -- which I say as someone who can't afford a hybrid car, so yeah, I know.

The next best thing is to carpool, ask to work form home, and to organize trips so that you get more done in one large outing, rather than come-and-go in many small outings. Walk when you can, or ride a bike. And don't forget: There's more than one way to cut back on your petroleum consumption.

Consume less petroleum: Redux

Become an informed consumer. Take note of which products are made with petroleum,(check out this site Ranken-energy.com) and do your best to avoid them when you can. Many of these things are available in more eco-friendly forms, made with glycerin or other vegetable byproducts instead of petroleum byproducts.

Lastly stop polluting your own neighborhood. We can’t complain if we’re not practicing good habits in our personal spaces. Pick up the trash that the garbage man stings through your yard, and down the street. Stop throwing your cigarette butts (people still smoke?) out the window and into storm drains. Recycle or re-use grocery bags (bring your own), and teach these things to your children for they will grow to do as you do.”

Summer Cleaning

We started off the summer CLEANING in really FUN ways.

Mom let us climb Mt. Unfolded.

Then she piled the clean laundry ontop of us.

Whoa, thats a days worth of sorting!

Then we cleaned the dining room table with dads shaving cream!

We drew pictures and erased them over and over for an hour.

Mom just kept adding drops of water to keep it foamy!

Don't get it in your eyes, it burns.

Lastly and without permission,

we flooded the kitchen floor with water from the fridge dispenser

added dads body wash and played slip N' slideto clean the tile.

Mom was a little upset at first but realized we did a REALLY good job.

It was very cold here the week of Christmas. It actually felt like winter. We enjoyed our time out of school and mom and dad's days off by taking in movie, cuddling up cozy and walking the dog in the rare chilly air!

We got lots of pictures in the Kiddi Pools.

But it was the BIG slides we loved the most.

Mom and Dad had to ride with us and so no one took any pictures.

We spent all day and had the park to ourselves!!!

The big one at the top Mom and Dad went on, but I was too short.

lift we rode up the mountain on. At the top we rode all the rides

the lifeguards said we were tall enough to tackle.

Brrrrr, it was unusually cold at 65 degrees after lunch.

He came to our house early because

we went on a camping trip at Disney World

It was a good practice run for him.

and to a family in Germany who were celebrating

early with visitors from out of town;

I look UNHAPPY in nearly every photo 'cause my dad (on request from mom) does this every day as soon as I get home from school. Mom's already at work every morning when I get ready so Dad takes this photo so she knows, # one what my hair looked like (dad only brushes it, no styling), and two what shoes I ended up leaving the house wearing. We lay out my outfits the night before so I'll never go to school in Markee's twelve month pants, pajamas or mismatched pattern on pattern (Dad say's “Heaven Forbid!”)(Mom says “Seriously, you think that matches???!”)!

Macynn was a champ and waved us off like nothing!

Kindergarten is a whole day here in FL

so my full time mom role is out the window(boo-hoo).

She's in the hands of the public education system for 6 hours each day

and she is asleep for 10-12 hours each night.

That leaves me with a whopping 8 hours at best.

This is devistating to dwell on...so I won't.

As you may have figured the Editor in Chief wears many hats. I not only showcase little Miss Mace and her mini M counterpart, lovingly referred to as Sharky Markee here on blogspot, but I also wear the hat of small business owner. Many of you may know it. It’s the business of M.O.M. and its booming. The company keeps its employees up late, out of bed early, scatter brained, trained as circus performers, jugglers, sweet talkers, sales associates and more. I personally manage the procurement, storage and preparation of all sustenance and meals, to include kitchen maintenance. I organize, decorate, assign and service lodging quarters. I arrange activities, socialization, fitness, recreation outings, functions and fieldtrips. All the while meeting the demands of vast sustainment type agencies around me, you know the paperwork, deadlines, due dates, and correspondence associated with each daily and individual issue that may arise. It's funny but I do the exact same job on a much larger scale for the military(yet another hat). Subtract the M.O.M pay off of snuggles and smooches of course. The Air Force has been a long time gig, nine years running, and it’s presented a World of opportunity. In my current position I am fortunate enough to travel for training. Recently I ventured to England with 8 fellow members. Here is a snippet of the touring I was lucky enough to do while my M.O.M. hat was temporarily hung on the rack. ENJOY!

Surprise, it’s a sprinkle. Unnamed baby boy number two was on his way and in his honor we had a "For the Love of..." sprinkle at Mimi's Cafe. Yumm. Kaycee had no clue. Each gift correlated with the words "For the love of..."
